Dr. Jörn Fontius

CEO, BEUMER Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG

During my studies at University of Technologies in Berlin my enthusiasm and passion for supply chain management started. I'm glad that I could complete different internships around the world and get more insights into the challenging world of supply chain management.

I started my professional career at BVL (German Logistics Association), the leading logistics and supply chain professionals' network in Germany as a project manager. My projects brought me to places like Brazil, China, Dubai, Russia and the US, where I was privileged to manage state to the art supply chain concepts. Later I was appointed member of the managing board of BVL, where I enjoyed the further strategic development of the network to foster an exchange of supply chain professionals.

Alongside my professional career, I completed a Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management with Prof. Frank Straube at TU Berlin from 2006-2013. During my Ph.D. studies I researched megatrends and their impact on logistics networks.

In summer 2013 I joined BEUMER Group, to support the global roll-out and implementation of our Strategy 2018. In January 2016 I returned to my passion and took over the global Supply Chain Management responsibility as divisional director. I am happy to support our company by building a global supply chain network to reduce lead times further, deliver higher quality and provide a competitive cost level.

As of November 2019, I am the president of the Airport Division at BEUMER Corporation in Dallas, Texas.

In addition to my working career at BEUMER, I'm honored to serve the jury of the "German Award for SCM". This award honors innovative and leading edge supply chain concepts from manufacturing as well as service companies. I'm also happy, having the opportunity to hold guest lectures at different German universities and get young people motivated to get interested in our fascinating world of supply chain management.
